[Case Study on Apparel Logistics Warehouse] From Manual Packing That Can't Keep Up to Automation
■ Customer's Issues and Concerns Clothing returned from each store in an unpackaged state needs to be packaged at the logistics warehouse before being stocked and shelved. Therefore, about ten people are packaging items all at once during available time. Even so, there is never a shortage of items waiting to be packaged, and it has become common to work overtime to address this, creating a bottleneck for the entire warehouse. There are multiple types of bags for clothing, making management complicated, and selecting bags according to the size of the products is also cumbersome. ■ Proposed Solution Since the goal was to package individual clothing items, we proposed the standard machine SS-001C, which is suitable for packaging folded clothing. It can accommodate products up to 700mm in length, so most items can generally be packaged. ■ Effects of Implementation - Overtime for packaging and the need to secure personnel for that purpose have been eliminated, allowing for smoother staffing within the warehouse. - Previously, it was necessary to prepare multiple types of single bags, but now a single type of film can package various products, eliminating the need for complicated management of single bags. - By using roll film, the procurement cost has decreased compared to single bags, leading to a reduction in running costs.
